Carlos is an illegal immigrant armed with a pair of Uzis and dressed in a red dress shirt underneath a light gray two-piece suit with a red handkerchief in his right breast pocket.
He can be unlocked for 4,500 coins after reaching player level 9.
Functionality[]
Basics[]
Carlos is the glass cannon of the shooters, firing his guns at a fast pace in five-round bursts up to six times before performing a very slow reload, and having a low courage cost for a ranged unit, but trades that off with low health. Carlos' movement speed is moderate. If approached suddenly or while out of ammo, Carlos whips his guns forward for a quick but extremely weak melee attack that can crit. His preparation time is long.
Some time after dying, Carlos will turn into Tipsy.
Perks[]
Carlos has a high-rate of fire perk, which is merely a label of his design as a unit. Otherwise, he has no other abilities.
At level 13, Carlos' special ability can be unlocked, granting him incendiary attacks that set enemies on fire (16% chance per shot), dealing damage equivalent to 15% of his agility. The fire damage can stack each time he burns an enemy. With his initial agility of 90, this results in 13.5 damage per tick, and up to 15 if it reaches 100. This ability is essentially an upgraded version of Swat's unique perk, as all of this bullets will deal fire damage to the enemy as well as having a better accuracy overall, which makes it feel less tied to RNG due to the increased chances of it happening. This ability's application is to guarantee that Undeads, Sergeants, and Skirmish opponents won't revive through the usage of Paramedic Nancy or Glenn. Despite its somewhat limited applications, it does significantly increase his overall damage output against non-full-fire-resistant enemies. While fire immune enemies are somewhat common in the late game progress, specifically in stage 7 and stage 8, the ones that do not are often no less threatening, making it a good ability to unlock.
Gameplay[]
Main Campaign[]
Carlos can be considered an upgraded version of Gunslinger. His weapons boast an even faster fire rate, granting him a much greater DPS. Carlos himself also has slightly better base stats compared to Gunslinger, for the same preparation time and courage cost. However, he has the slowest reload speed in the entire game as a consequence of dual-wielding as well as unable to hold his own in close quarters very well. Because of this, using him as the only ranged unit is heavily ill-advised. He works much better alongside other ranged units, preferably those with a quicker reload as they'll be able to cover for Carlos while he reloads. Sonya and Specops are both great choices in case achieving high damage output is preferred. The said setup can also minimize risks against Insectoids. If overall survivability is more preferred, Policeman Diaz is a go-to option as he can better handle oncoming threats.
Skirmish[]
In League, Carlos makes for a decent ranged unit thanks to his burst damage potential and low cost, being able to occasionally even take on bullet resistant units, which is compounded with his special ability unlocked. Stray shots may also hit backline ranged units, especially snipers.
However, just like any unit without resistance to bullets, Carlos is very vulnerable to returning enemy fire. His reload speed is also problematic as it hampers his ability to deliver any more damage beyond what a single magazine is worth.
Item Sets[]
Like any HRoF unit, Carlos benefits most from Hunter set, as it allows him to deal massive consistent damage. Military is a viable alternative in case you want to give him some crowd control capabilities. Most other sets are usually not recommended, which includes Tactical in context of regular missions: by the time Carlos is available, players can afford to quickly buff his stats to a meaningful level, eliminating a need to worry about bullet resistance.
Being a ranged unit, a prep. time watch is the best option for Carlos. Among books, +% health is the safest bet. It's technically possible to get use out of +crit. chance books with Carlos, but that requires farming for perfect items with +% crit. damage buffs, and also strips him of a safety net in form of large extra health. Like most HRoFs, Carlos benefits most from flat boosts rather than percentages.
Skins and Synergies[]
Carlos is not part of any teams, but has a Redneck skin.

While Carlos might work in all tiers of Rednecks' synergies, his application only starts shining at the 3/3 level. Being an overall good ranged unit, whose damage output helps out severely on a team where Farmer is the only other gunner. He has potential to keep the 3/3 triple unique unit requirement active, making Redneck likelier to abuse the 2/2 synergy as a result. He is best paired with either Nurse Nancy, or Farmer, depending on a mission.

Trivia[]
- Carlos is the only unit to not wear any sort of headgear like a cap, helmet, or mask. With his hair keeping his eyes hidden by shadow.
- Although the 2nd agent from the Agents unit technically fits this description as well, the unit always comes in a pair, meaning that the unit doesn't count as a whole since the other agent still wears a hat, and thus making Carlos the only proper unit with this cosmetic distinction (or lack thereof).
- Before deciding to dual-wield, Carlos had a different sprite.
- Carlos and Dr. Kane are tied for both having the slowest reload speed in the game, at around 2.7 seconds.
