Dead Ahead Wiki

IF logo Light Soldier is an IF member and a powerful melee fighter that still got it. He is armed with a sledgehammer and dressed in an urban camo long sleeve shirt with blue highlights, black armored vest with shoulder pads, urban camo pants, light gray gloves, a clear full-face gas mask, and a blue IF combat helmet.

Builders logo Handyman is Light Soldier's first exclusive skin. He is armed with a sledgehammer and dressed in a gray tank top, blue pants, dark gray gloves, a clear full-face gas mask, a brown tool belt, and a yellow hard hat.

Scientists logo Liquidator is Light Soldier's second exclusive skin. He is armed with a sledgehammer and dressed in a yellow hazmat suit with a hood and blue gloves, a blue ID tag, and a black clear full-face respirator mask.

He can be unlocked for 24,000 coins after reaching player level 13.

Basics[]

Light Soldier is a damager, meaning he will attack enemies and the barricade at close range while excelling at inflicting large amounts of raw damage to high health targets.

Light Soldier is a very strong melee unit, boasting very high health and high damage. He moves at a modest pace. He attacks relatively quick, including his critical attack. He has an average preparation time, but has a relatively high courage cost for a damager.

Light Soldier has a special AI script where if there is a Pooch, Runner, Witch, or Fat Zombie near him and he isn't currently fighting anything, he will target them and ignore other zombies.

Some time after dying, Light Soldier will turn into Sergeant.

Perks and Abilities[]

Light Soldier is immune to poison, and has 90% resistance to bullet damage.

At level 13, Light Soldier's special ability can be unlocked, granting 10% extra crit damage for every 60 points of Valor he has. This Special an is alright, if fairly small bonus that isn't worth the price of maxing Light Soldier out. Not even mentioning that you have to invest in his critical hits if you want to get full usage out of his Special. If you give him a melee damage or health book and ignore his crits, then his Special becomes near useless.

Gameplay[]

Main Campaign[]

In terms of stats, Light Soldier can be considered to be one of the best melee units in the game, possessing the highest base health and damage among all damagers. In practice though, he feels rather underwhelming due to how late into the game he becomes available. Considering that he is unlocked at level 13, Light Soldier typically becomes available to players when there are no missions left in the game where damagers prove to be effective. The same can also be said about Light Soldier's bullet and poison resistances. And even if you feel like you need to use an efficient damager in your deck, Grenadier easily fills the role, thanks to also having impressive damage, and even better attacks speed than LS.

The only real application Light Soldier has is to be used for gimmicky replays that involve synergies of some of his teams. Such approaches are discussed in the respective section below.

Skirmish[]

In League, Light Soldier is a semi-decent choice. With bullet resistance and high health, he is one of the better suited units to use against ranged opponents. Upgrading his health and damage decently high will prove to further maximize his effectiveness given his already high base stats. Despite the aforementioned advantages, he is still outclassed by bulletproof heavyweights, despite his improved speed. Compared to them, he is simply unable to last long enough when put against meta builds, which makes 30 courage too high of a price to rely on him at least as a temporary shield. It's generally advised against using LS in higher tiers anyway, since there are many of players relying on Tactical set.

Item Sets[]

Like most damagers, Light Soldier is able to get a great use out of both Gentleman and Surgery. Even though he has low base crit. chance, Gentleman proves to be a good option thanks to LS' relatively swift crits, and his special ability which accentuates his role as a damage dealer. Surgery acts as an option that allows to focus on tanky builds for him.

Like most damagers, Light Soldier gets most use out of prep. time watches, with agility bonuses acquired as secondary buffs. He can receive a significant boost from percentage bonuses to health and damage, but only when he's close to being maxed out. At low-to-mid levels, flat buffs are more preferable. +% Health books are a good all-around choice, and are a necessity for Surgery builds. If you gave him Gentleman instead, then +% Crit. chance books are a required choice instead.

Should his special ability get unlocked, slightly increasing LS' charisma can be a good choice. It's not recommended to go all out on it though, due to the diminishing returns.

Skins and Synergies[]

Light Soldier, along with his respective skins, is a part of the following teams: Internal Forces (IF), Builders, and Scientists.

In all the teams above, this unit is an okay option thanks to always being one of the better members in their rosters.

In IF, Light Soldier can work as an okayish substitute to Grenader in case you need someone with higher health and damage output, regardless of their higher cost. In Builders, Handyman is the most efficient unit alongside Builder himself, being able to provide the most effective use of the 2/2 power, and also one of the better options for making a 3/3 synergy deck. Same goes about Scientists, where Liquidator is one of the best choices for the 2/2 and the 3/3 powers, accentuating their rushdown approach.

Trivia[]

  • Light Soldier's Liquidator skin is a reference to the show Breaking Bad, where characters Walter White and Jessie Pinkman use the exact same uniforms.
  • Light Soldier's original concept was made by KTPlay user C4nn0nF0dd3r. In the unit's original concept, he was an IF member who was supposed to have the additional damage attack and knockback perks. He would also use another melee weapon as opposed to only having just one. Essentially, he was supposed to be an upgrade of Mechanic with additional resistance perks and better stats.
    • As mentioned above, he was supposed to have the additional damage perk. Like Mechanic, he'd rush into battle with a sledgehammer and slam it into the first enemy he encountered and then proceed to fight the rest of the mission using his other weapon, a trench club. His additional attack and regular attacks could also cause knockback. However, Light Soldier would only deal 2.5 times his documented damage against the barricade and 5 times to enemies, a bit less compared to Mechanic's damage multipliers. This would be balanced by his regular melee attacks which dealt high damage similar in strength or more to Grenadier, making him more effective at dealing damage in the long run. He was originally supposed to have a faster movement speed of 12.
    • An early idea for the unit was for him to use a highly damaging but slow-firing pistol along with his sledgehammer before settling on having the sledgehammer be used for a rush attack and pulling out a trench club instead. Evidently, the concept was given to the Mechanic.
