Dead Ahead Wiki

Nickname "Twins" is an infected convict armed with half a corpse of another infected convict and dressed in a torn orange prison jumpsuit. Her "weapon" is dressed in the remaining top half of an orange prison jumpsuit. She has gray hair and clawed hands.

Though rarely encountered, Twins is one of the most difficult regular enemies to defeat in the entire game. The combination of high health, significant damage, and extreme bullet resistance leaves very few efficient ways of killing her. Despite her abysmal movement speed, Twins never stops moving forward unless it's to attack something. Slowly but surely, she will eventually make her way to the bus unless she is kept back. The only way to effectively defeat her is to use certain melee units and fire.

As stated in her journal entry, Twins has a double attack. Although it may seem redundant given her incredible damage, it cleverly serves as a means of covering her knockback weakness. With the second swing, she can easily kill melee units who've just knocked her back and are re-approaching her for their follow-up attack. Fortunately, this can be easily negated if said melee unit happens to follow-up with another knockback attack and push her away, or if the melee unit itself is too slow to even walk back into range. Other sources of reliable knockback work even better, preventing them from making significant progress.

Given her weakness against knockback and her significant damage, melee units that can't knockback enemies are useless. This makes Private Rodriguez and Mechanic the few usable options. Private and Mechanic can both deliver some damage and knock her back, with Mechanic even having the sledgehammer to gravely cripple or outright kill the first one he encounters. It is highly recommended to properly upgrade their critical chance and damage to increase their chance against fighting Twins. Although unnecessary, using Fury buff is highly recommended as it not only gives all units an advantage when fighting against Twins, but it also helps to destroy the barricade quickly as well. In particular, Mechanic benefits the most as he can easily kill Twins in one hit with enough upgrades to his damage. With his special ability unlocked, a Fury-boosted Mechanic can chain his attacks on several Twins, killing them all with terrifying ease.

Turbo is fairly strong against Twins as her unique knockback ability can knock her back a very safe distance. Thanks to Turbo's extended attack range and Twins' extremely slow speed, she will usually have enough time to wind up her annoyingly slow critical hit. With enough upgrades to her health, Turbo is capable of surviving one of Twins' attacks if she manages to reach her before she delivers her critical hit, giving her a second chance at attacking before being killed.

Alternatively, some slow melee units, be it in attack or movement speed can also work well. Juggernaut is the best option among melee heavyweight units, not only does he have significant health, his guaranteed knockback on regular hit and AOE critical attack combined with his high damage allow him to easily deal with a horde of Twins. Lionheart is a perfect choice thanks to his combination of extended melee attack range, guaranteed knockback, decent damage, and solid attack speed. In addition, if properly upgraded, his good base health allows him to survive at least one Twins' hit should she manage to approach him. However, assuming his special ability isn't unlocked, it is advised to refrain from using his manual ability since it forces him to stop attacking which makes him vulnerable, not to mention the fire damage from his torch is pitiful and you can use other sources of fire to give him a damage boost. Despite possessing the knockback perk as well, Chopper and Soldier are not a good choice, as not only does the former have very slow attack speed and the latter have inadequate output despite his fast attack speed, they both have an incredibly long preparation time and cannot deal with other threats.

The list of ranged units effective against Twins is very limited. Flamethrower is a major exception, as his weapon does fire damage and when used properly can quickly eat away their health. However, he'll need constant support though as Insectoid, who also appears with Twins in their respective mission, can easily kill him. Dr. Norman is also a great choice, as his weapon has a high ROF, ignores her bullet resist and slows her to a crawl. Willy is another great option as he can also ignore Twins' bullets resistance and stun her with his weapon. If she happens to get too close, his knockback perk can create some space between them and give Willy the opportunity to reload. If she manages to attack him, the shield can absorb the first swing, and Willy himself can either dodge the second swing or tank the damage if he was given enough upgrades to his health. Pepper is also an excellent option, as she can constantly knock back Twins with guaranteed knockback melee strikes. Alternatively, Ranger is also a solid choice with his special ability unlocked, as his frequent pushing attacks will forever pin Twins at a distance, making them much easier to handle.

If players wish to use other ranged units apart from the aforementioned ones, it is mandatory to equip them with Tactical combo set (bypasses 50% of an enemy's bullet resist). This allows them to continue dealing fairly significant damage.

Since Twins do not resist fire damage, high-leveled Red Barrels and Molotovs are both adequate choices for whittling them down. A tank of Nitrogen, when used well, can greatly slow them and buy other units valuable time to fight them.

Abilities[]

  • 95% bullet resistance.
  • Knocks units back.
  • Attack cycle consists of two separate attacks, each dealing full damage.

First encountered[]

  • Stage 8, Mission 138
  • Stage 8, Supply Run 1 - Wave 2 on Hard difficulty

Trivia[]

  • Twins are some of the rarest zombies ever. They have been only sighted in Mission 138, Supply Runs, the Princess Rescue event, and the Halloween Event.
  • Unlike some of her fellow convicts, Twins, along with Crank, are the few zombies encountered in stage 8 without any physical signs of blue energy affecting her.
  • Twins, along with Sapper and Cephalopods, have the highest bullet resistance among enemies in the entire game, at a whopping 95%.
  • Necromancer and Twins are the slowest non-stationary enemies in the entire game.
  • Twins is the only female zombie who shares a death animation similar to the majority of female human units.
    • Sheriff Charlotte can be compared to her for this as her death animation resembles closely to that of the majority of female zombies.
  • Currently at version 3.6.0, out of all the units in the game the only ones who can tank the 215 (430 in total) damage attack (Level 10 Twins) in Mission 138 are Policeman Diaz (with 216 HP due to his melee resist), Juggernaut/Soldier/Red Hood (431 HP and above), Chopper (431 HP and above). Willy's shield allows him to absorb one of the two attacks without dying, but the fight can vary as Willy's attacks can stun and disable Twins frequently and his melee attacks can cause knockback.
    • If Twins is buffed with red aura , they can deal roughly 268 damage, as long as the heavyweights mentioned before can tank the hits with 536 HP or more, and if Policeman Diaz has 269 HP or more, then they should survive the double attack.
  • Before version 3.6.0, out of all the units in the game, only level 7+ Policeman Diaz, level 11+ Soldier, and level 11+ Red Hood (the minimum level for all if using only +3 health upgrades for each level) can fully survive Twins' double attack on health alone. As mentioned earlier, Willy can also survive her full attack if her first swing hits his shield and he takes the second hit himself, which is possible if he is, at minimum, level 11+ with +3 health upgrades for each level.
    • If Twins is buffed with red aura, only level 13 Policeman (again, with +3 health upgrades for each level) and level 13 Soldier with his special ability (which gives him SP that can dismiss one attack) unlocked can fully survive her double attack.
  • The advertisement sprite of Twins includes a full Soldier rather than half of another convict.
  • Due to their high health, Twins are one of the handful of zombies able to survive the bus running them over.
